EDITORIAL posted August 8 ![]() The 2000 edition of Trent Green is shown above. And what Mr. Green showed the Rams and the NFL (2 TDs passes, good mobility) on the night of August 5, 2000, was an important moment for Green and the Rams. Green's performance was important for Green himself because, prior to Saturday night, his most recent appearance on the TWA turf was while riding a four-wheeler (shown below)... ![]() Recall that the cart was necessitated because of a season-ending knee injury suffered at the hands (literally) of Chargers S Rodney Harrison, during a '99 pre-season game (shown below). ![]() But in his pre-season performance against the Raiders, Trent Green proved that he is healthy enough to lead the NFL's best and most diverse offense...which is only good for his own NFL career. Green's apparent recovery from his injury is also very good news for the Rams. A healthy Trent Green will fetch at least two first-round draft choices from an NFL team that wishes to upgrade the most important position in the National Football League--quarterback. And those draft choices will be a necessity for the Rams in their quest to stay atop the NFC West, especially in light of the expected defections of various veteran players demanding higher salaries--emerging rookies generally cost less than established stars. But back to Green. It's hard not to root for the St. Louis native, whose chance to lead the Rams in '99 was ended by injury. The 2000 pre-season is indeed very important for Trent Green. The entire NFL is watching. |
