He's Silky...All-Purpose...
and a Difference-Maker
Eddie Kennison and the fans at the TWA Dome renewed their "friendship" on November 28, and the former Ram also rana few routes against his old buddy Todd Lyght.

But Kennison and the Saints left town figuratively, if not literally, cursing the Rams as Marshall Faulk et al dominated the game's second half en route to a 43-12 victory over the New Orleans, who played without rookie RB Ricky Williams (turf toe).

And Eddie Kennison, while silky, is not a difference-maker. At least not in the positive sense.

The two Rams' difference-makers in 1999, through eleven games, are Kurt Warner and Marshall Faulk.

And Faulk was the star vs. the Saints (along with the Rams bend-but-not-break first half defense), rushing for 1XX yards and catching X passes to boot.

No doubt defensive coordinators from around the NFL run and re-run video tape that shows repeatedly shows Faulk running behind the economical yet effective blocks of Robert Holcombe (25)...

...and when the Rams go with five wide-outs (with Faulk deployed as a slot receiver)...why it's enough to warm the heart of any old geezer who remembers the days of Terry Metcalf and Mel Gray.

Of course, with Torry Holt (top) and Isaac Bruce (bottom) as the bookends for the Rams version of the spread...it isn't hard to figure out that the Rams have one of the most feared offenses in the entire NFL.

But if there's one essential ingredient to that offense, it's Marshall Faulk. Faulk's elusiveness is remarkable...and the fact that defenses tense up a bit when he has the ball in the open field seems palpable, even from the far reaches of the Dome.

Even more elusive than Marshall Faulk, though, has been a home playoff game for an NFL franchise that calls St. Louis home.

With a victory over Carolina next Sunday, it will be welcome home Rams come January.

Can you believe it?
