The Rams continued their winning ways Dec. 19, defeating the New York Giants 31-10. The win improved the Rams record to an unbelievable 12 wins and 2 losses, and ensured that the hometown darlings of the NFL would have home-field advantage throughout the NFL's Super Bowl tournament. First-half highlights for the Rams included a continuation of their stellar defensive play: the Giants failed to gain a single first down in the entire first quarter. |

And sure, the Rams' defense contributed two touchdowns of their own, including a scintillating return by S Devin Bush. But the Rams' offense, versus the Giants, continued to literally lift the fans in the TWA Dome out of their seats. Why? For one thing, the offense constructed by offensive coordinator Mike Martz has a knack for getting its skilled components into the open field. Take Marshall Faulk (below, carrying ball), for example... |

From the backfield, as a wide-out, or as a man-in-motion, versus New York, Marshall Faulk seemed to "Run to Daylight" a half-dozen times... It doesn't seem that long ago that the Rams offense would go an entire game without a big gainer, does it? |

|
A healthy Isaac Bruce (80, above) found open field vs. the Giants, too. No doubt Rams' receivers coach Al Saunders gets some of the credit for Bruce's resurgence. |

|
Heck, even the less-than-nimble Kurt Warner was able to "Run to Daylight" vs. the Giants. Vince Lombardi is smiling somewhere. But Warner's job is to get the ball to the skill guys...and that he did vs. New York, completing 18 of 32 passes (319 yards, 2 TDs). Just another extraordinary performance from the starting NFC quarterback in the 2000 Pro Bowl. Next up: Dick Jauron's Chicago Bears. No doubt Rams' coach Dick Vermeil has one wish for this holiday season--no injuries... |
