Southern Illinois University small forward Monte Jenkins, shown above dunking in a game vs. Creighton University, picked up a second-place trophy in last night's ESPN-televised collegiate Slam Dunk championship.

All of which adds a bit of French Pastry to a remarkable season for Jenkins, who bought into new SIU coach Bruce Weber's "defense first" system to such an extent that he was named the 1999-99 Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

Congrats to Monte Jenkins, who aspires to play professional basketball.
