The Hit, The Result, The Outcome--To Be Continued

As "blocking back" Marshall Faulk looks on helplessly, Rams QB Trent Green fires his eleventh completed pass of the first half of Saturday night's pre-season game against the Chargers.

But with his hands securely fastened to Green's left foot, and his shoulder firmly pressed into the back of Green's left knee, Chargers blitzing safety Rodney Harrison is about to apply the Tackle of Doom to the Rams QB.

The result? A complete blow-out (ligaments and cartilage) of Green's knee...

The outcome? Total surgical knee reconstruction for Green, who had completed 28-of-32 passes in his inaugural pre-season as a Ram.

The aftermath? The Rams shipped a seventh-round draft pick to the Raiders, in exchange for QB Paul Justin.

But ex-Arena Leaguer Kurt Warner is slated to take over for Green as the Rams #1 QB.

With Trent Green literally riding off into the sunset of the '99 NFL season, some of the sillier NFL devotees in St. Louis are pining for (you guessed it) Tony Banks.

And while Rams coach Dick Vermeil unwisely analogized Warner's chance-of-a-lifetime with (can you believe it?!) future Hall-of-Fame QB Joe Montana, there is a better comparison...one with a St. Louis connection.

Can Warner play Jim Hart to Green's Charlie Johnson?
