On September 24, 1997 Mark McGwire hit a batting-practice
pitch that landed nine rows from the top of the stadium (in the
area of the blue star). The ball ricocheted off of a seat and
landed in the hands of a young lad who was sitting only four
rows from the top of the stadium. Recall that another first baseman,
Mike Laga , is the only player, in a game, to hit a ball out
of Busch Stadium. Laga's "poke", of course, was foul...and
akin to hitting a Little League pitch over the backstop behind
home plate.
All of which begs the question:
Could Mark McGwire hit a fair ball out of Busch Stadium?
